Farewell Liverpool

Friday 8th July 2022

It was up and at’em once Sid (CaRT) had been round to tell all was readied for us to finish our city break. We were joined by a single hander live-aboard  and his cute dog for the journey through the locks and up onto the Leeds and Liverpool canal. Our cat-confusing neighbour, Peter, came up and waved us goodbye as we passed through the first lock – a very nice gesture, especially at that hour of the morning as he’s not normally an early bird.

We stopped at Litherland and Graham did a self pump-out as part of our investigation into Jannock’s recent list to Starboard while Brenda hit Tescos next door for supplies (and an orchid). We have enjoyed Liverpool but are looking forward to quieter mooring spots for a good nights sleep. The intrusive street lighting didn’t help even though Jannock has very good black-out curtains. It still comes in via the roof vents.

All tasks completed we set off again up through Bootle, Litherland and Aintree hoping to get to swing bridge 9 before 2pm. It has a time lock from then until 5:30pm to prevent traffic delays. We passed through at 1:15, so were not effected, and then we really appreciated being back amongst the fields and trees, listening to bird song that didn’t consist of only gulls.

The yellow water lilies have surfaced and flowered during the week we’ve been in Liverpool, and many of them have fouled our propeller.
