A week in Liverpool - Day1

Saturday 2nd July 2022

We are moored just over the road from Liverpool 1 bus station to see what trips we might plan. The only info there was for distant coach trips and what was leaving in the next 10 minutes – Mission failed!

Our next goal was to visit the world museum via the tourist information office. We found the new tourist information office quite easily – better than last visit then. They suggested lots of things that we were either not interested in or that we did last visit. The staff were very helpful and gave us a map with all the things we were interested in marked with an X.

We set off with the map and got ourselves happily lost fairly soon. We nearly went into the Philharmonic dining rooms but decided it was a bit early. Past the Catholic cathedral and on through quiet streets taking in lovely and interesting buildings, walking through the university looking at the interesting Victorian buildings of the medical and vetinary campus.

When ever we got the map out to try and work out where we were we were usually asked “are you lost” by a passing local. Yes – but we were happy about that. St Lukes bombed out church was set beautifully in a garden of meadow flowers.

Feeling peckish, we stopped at a cafĂ©, chosen because of some old fellas that were sat outside with their coffees. Two teas and huge sandwiches later, we set off into an area of ethnic grocery shops – so that’s supper sorted then! Greek tonight and risotto for later.

We found ourselves outside the Central Library which had a ‘makers’ exhibition on. Most of the exhibits were were electronics or otherwise techy, but they also had some art, sewing, knitting and lacemaking. This kept us busy for a couple of hours. Next door was the world museum, our ‘goal’ but we did not have enough time left to visit it.

Our walk back to the boat highlighted the number of stag and hen do’s that crowd into Liverpool every weekend. Some were having a good time but offending no-one – others …….   Graham managed to get this amusing picture of a seagull sat atop a street bin.
