A week in Liverpool–Day3

Monday 4th July 2022

Happy birthday to Graham’s sister Julie.

The morning started out grey and windy, threatening rain. We stuck to our plans and walked across the road to catch a number 4 bus for a visit to Sefton Park Palm House. When we got off of the bus, the rain clouds had gone but the wind had increased. It was lovely to be away from all the city centre traffic noise and to be able to hear birds sing.

The park is lovely, a brilliant open space. We enjoyed the Palm House. We were met by a volunteer guide who told us a little of it’s history and how all the plants were arranged inside. He indicated seating and albums showing more info on how it was built and what all the different plants were. To Brenda’s joy, they had pineapple plants with fruit growing on them (last seen by her in Malaya in the 1960s). The pineapple we have at home is much bigger so she has hopes that it will eventually fruit, if it hasn’t died of neglect by the time we get home.

We had tea and cake in the café area – lovely cakes – before strolling back to the bus via the band-stand, lake, play park and other cafeteria. The bus is a circular route so we got back on at the same stop as we had left it and saw the other side of the park as well.

We got off at the other end of the dock area and walked back towards Jannock along the riverbank, regardless of the very cold, high wind coming up the river. The tide was in so we were able to watch large ships coming and going. One large tanker had two tugs helping it manoeuvre into the loading dock against the wind.

We passed the Titanic Liverpool hotel which is built on a barge and his hidden alongside the marina. We also spotted this ‘fun bus’ in the car park – looking spotless considering it is 12 years old.

A lovely sunny evening so hoping for a warmer dry day tomorrow.
