We are moving to Barby moorings today due to the un-expected demand for a 33% mooring increase at Brinklow – we cannot afford it. Although not as good a marina for social events etc, which are facilities that we seldom use, it is over £10 per week cheaper. An added bonus is that pump-outs are free for annual moorers at Barby – that’ll save us a few more pounds per annum.
Having handed in the electric card and gate fob for a refund, we reversed out from W9 and set off south down the North Oxford canal towards Rugby and Hillmorton.
The Ivy was being pulled down from the walls of bridge by the weight of the rain but I didn’t get the bridge number in the photo or afterwards due to immediately meeting an oncoming boat.
After passing through Newbold tunnel it started raining hard so Brenda disappeared inside while I braved it out under an umbrella. Luckily the rain stopped in time for us to eat lunch on the move before we reached Hillmorton bottom lock where we were third in-line for the single working lock.
At the middle lock we ascended as nb Waoiuru was passing down the other side. The single handed gent was moving her from Dunchurch pools marina to Hillmorton boatyard for his friends who now own the boat. Unfortunately they hadn’t told him where they keep the windlasses ;^)
Once through Hillmorton locks we had nice sunshine for the rest of the short run to Jannock’s new mooring at Barby moorings. It was a bit windy across the marina and so we ended up alongside a liveaboard who moors just inside the entrance until we could get the swing bridge open to allow us to access our new berth.
I then congratulated myself for choosing the best weather day this week for our move and then fetched the car from Brinklow. We ended the day with yet another excellent Indian meal at the Spice House, Hillmorton, on our way home.

Not really Brian, we used to visit everytime we visited Jannock at Brinklow
